An amazing range of sports was represented – in memorabilia and hall-of-fame inductees – at Sunday’s launch of the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.
Emcee Joel Scott welcomed an overflow audience in the Grand Hall at the Cobourg Community Centre to share the landmark opening.

Cobourg ON, August 28, 2018 – The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame today announced that it is accepting nominations of local sports athletes and builders for election to the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.

The Cobourg Galloping Ghosts are the most famous team in Cobourg sports history. Managed by Fred Dufton, the Ghosts won eight Ontario championships, five after World War II. They were Canadian Dominion champions in 1946, 1948 and 1950. They were the first team in Canada to wear aluminum cleats and the second to wear white uniforms.
