Ross Quigley Youth in Sport Award 2023 Winners

Award Year

Andrex Kellar is a grade twelve honour roll student at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School. He was the captain of the rugby team for three years and received the Rugby Coaches Award for the Junior team in 2019 and the Senior team in 2022. A personal achievement was being invited to attend the U18 Team Canada Rugby Central Camp. He also wrestled for two years as a junior and a senior and won COSSA Wrestling Gold in the 72kg Boys division and qualified for the OFSSA provincial Championships. He gave back to his sports community by volunteering as the assistant coach for two years with the Cobourg Saxons. His volunteer involvement in the community included the Cobourg Saxons Beach Festival and the Cobourg Saxon's “Give Rugby A Try” in 2018, 2019, and 2022. He has been accepted at Durham College and will focus on his program choice, Automotive Technician Service and Management. Congrats Andrex!

Sydney Pipe attends St. Mary Secondary School. She is the definition of a multi-talented high school academic and athlete. She played hockey, rugby, soccer and basketball and still maintained a 97% average. Sydney served as a coach and mentor to young hockey players. She also volunteered at the Silver Stick Tournament, Charity Mud Run, Terry Fox Run and the Pride Bench Initiative while racking up 50 hours of community service. She has been highly involved in community sports, playing hockey in Leaside and Clarington, while excelling in soccer and rugby for Cobourg, Quinte, and Northumberland. Her individual awards include most valuable defenseman in hockey, Clarington Mayor's Award for Academics and Involvement, and the Character In Sport Award in hockey. Sydney will attend Queen's University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences and Biochemistry. She will be playing rugby for Queen's women's team, as well. Congrats, Sydney!
