Female Athlete of the Year: Stella Howe
Stella Howe is a multi-sport athlete, competing for St Mary Thunder athletics during all three seasons (Fall, Winter, and Spring) in each of her four years at the school. Stella has played between 4 and 6 sports every year she has been at St Mary’s – Basketball, Hockey, Badminton and Soccer were her staples, with some Cross-Country and Track & Field thrown in – all while maintaining a very high academic average. She helped propel the Girls Hockey team to the OFSAA championships the past two seasons. Stella is raved about by her coaches for her work ethic, positivity and coachability. She is adored by her teammates across all teams, who mention her infectious smile and positive attitude. Congratulations to Stella for this outstanding achievement and your incredible commitment to Thunder Athletics.

Male Athlete of the Year: Simon McFadden
Simon McFadden has been a multi-sport athlete every year in high school, competing for St Mary Thunder athletics during all three seasons (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Simon is a force to be reckoned with on the field for both the Boys Sevens and Senior Boys Rugby teams and was a key reason why the team qualified for OFSAA this past June. He has travelled with the team to England, Wales, France and Italy on tours, being selected to the leadership group by the coaches. Simon also played volleyball and baseball – helping the baseball team qualify for its first OFSAA championship this spring. He was also a dominant member of the Thunder wrestling team, qualifying for OFSAA this winter. Congratulations to Simon for his determined effort and his many contributions to school athletics.

Male Athlete of the Year: Dawson Badali
Dawson Badali competed in 6 sports this year at CCI, including Tennis, Golf, Wrestling, Badminton, Ultimate and Track and Field. Being able to balance that number of sports in a graduating year, while still maintaining strong grades is a feat on its own. Dawson did more than just compete, he excelled in his sports. Dawson was the MVP of the golf, tennis and badminton teams and won a Coaches Award for the wrestling team. He competed at OFSAA in Tennis and Badminton, and competed at COSSA or further in each of the other sports he competed in. Beyond the success Dawson found through his dedication and perseverance, all coaches praise his sportsmanship and willingness to give back when an opportunity arose.

Female Athlete of the Year: Jaime Hellam
Jaime Hellam is a physically gifted athlete who puts 100% effort into all the sports she pursues. Her coaches all praise her leadership qualities and positive attitude. You can always rely on Jaime to push the pace of a game, or to encourage teammates to do their best. At CCI this year, Jaime has excelled in hockey, soccer and basketball, capturing the MVP award in hockey. Jaime will look to play hockey at the university level next year.
