Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame opens in the Cobourg Community Centre’s Grand Hall on Sunday, March 3rd from 3 to 5 pm

The Town of Cobourg in partnership with the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to invite citizens to attend the official unveiling of exhibits and the announcement of inaugural inductees taking place at the Cobourg Community Centre’s Grand Hall on Sunday, March 3rd from 3 to 5 p.m.

Since March 2017, a dedicated group of volunteers have been collecting and cataloguing hundreds of sports memorabilia and historical information in order to preserve the rich legacy of sport found within the local community. The Sports Hall of Fame is supported financially and through the donations of materials and services by local individuals and community groups.

“This is an exciting addition to our community, especially for local sports enthusiasts,” said Councillor Emily Chorley, Coordinator of Parks and Recreation Services. “I want to extend my thanks to the Sports Hall of Fame Committee for their hard work in bringing the histories of nearly 80 local sports to the community.”

Over the past several months, nominations to the Sports Hall of Fame were requested from the community. A separate selection committee reviewed the submitted nominations and selected the inductees to be announced on March 3rd. The formal induction ceremony will take place at the Best Western in Cobourg on June 22 and will help raise funds for the project.

The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame can be found within the Grand Hall at the Cobourg Community Centre located at 750 D’Arcy Street.

Eight large donated cabinets and jewellery display cases will showcase a variety of local sports history and memorabilia encompassing the Town of Cobourg and Townships of Alnwick-Haldimand, Cramahe and Hamilton.

A theme will be attached to each of the eight larger cabinets.
