2023 Inductees to be Announced
March 5th at 2:00 p.m. - Cobourg Community Centre
The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce that the announcement of the 2023 inductees to the Sports Hall of Fame will take place at the Cobourg Community Centre’s Grand Hall on Sunday, March 5th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Information about the Ross Quigley Youth in Sport Award will also be provided at that time.
Since March 2017, a dedicated group of volunteers have been collecting and cataloguing sports memorabilia and historical information in order to preserve the rich legacy of sport to be found in our communities. The Sports Hall of Fame has been fortunate to be supported financially and through the donations of materials and services by local individuals and community groups.
Over the past several months, nominations to the Sports Hall of Fame were requested from the community. A separate selection committee reviewed the submitted nominations and selected the inductees to be announced on March 5th. The formal induction ceremony will take place at the Cobourg Best Western Inn on June 16th 2023.
The Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame encompasses the Town of Cobourg, Alderville First Nation and Townships of Alnwick-Haldimand, Cramahe and Hamilton.
The Cobourg Community Centre is located at 750 D’Arcy Street in Cobourg and the public is invited to attend.

The Cobourg Galloping Ghosts are the most famous team in Cobourg sports history. Managed by Fred Dufton, the Ghosts won eight Ontario championships, five after World War II. They were Canadian Dominion champions in 1946, 1948 and 1950. They were the first team in Canada to wear aluminum cleats and the second to wear white uniforms.
